Carry out the annual cathodic protection survey and report
You are the Gas Network Technician assigned to the Traralgon depot integrity program.
What is going on
The 150 millimetre steel high pressure main between Morwell and Moe is protected by rectifier R-09 and monitored at 22 test points. Last year's survey recorded a 120 millivolt drift at TP-14 that was noted but never investigated. A new housing estate has been built beside the main since then and a telecommunications duct was installed across the easement in July. Work order WO-26-3315 schedules the survey for 15 September. Tom Halloran wants every reading recorded against the asset, every defect raised, and a technical report he can table at the safety case review. The reference electrode and multimeter calibration certificates are in the depot store.
Subject: Cathodic protection survey, Morwell to Moe steel main
The annual survey on the Princes Highway steel main is scheduled for 15 September under WO-26-3315. Last year TP-14 drifted 120 millivolts and I want that looked at properly this time. Follow the cathodic protection procedure, record every reading against the asset in the register, raise work orders for anything outside criteria and compile a technical report using the template. I need the report before the safety case review at the end of the month.
Your brief
Plan and carry out the survey to the cathodic protection procedure, record and assess the readings, raise work orders for defects, and compile a technical report with clear recommendations for the Maintenance and Integrity Manager.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Survey checklist
- Asset register entries with readings
- New work order for the TP-14 defect
- Completed technical report
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
