Build next week's driver roster within fatigue limits

You are the Driver Allocator for Road Freight and Fleet.

Simulated workplaceAdvanced missionCAQA Corridor Logistics

What is going on

On Monday driver Tom Bracken worked twelve and a half hours after accepting an extra drop when another vehicle broke down, a breach that is now logged in the fatigue log and the incident register. Sunita Rao is stood down pending a medical clearance. Next week's freight plan from customer service shows four metro runs and three regional runs each day, plus the Thursday Hume run and a Friday dangerous goods run. Fourteen drivers are available, two of them on light duties. The Road Freight and Fleet Manager wants a roster where no run is planned within two hours of a daily limit, rest between shifts is at least ten hours and the eastern suburbs customers are told how second drops will be handled.

Dale Cunningham, Driver Allocator
Subject: Next week's driver roster and the Tom Bracken breach

Tom went over twelve hours on Monday after picking up an extra drop, and Sunita is stood down until she sees her doctor. I need next week's roster built for the fourteen metro and regional drivers so that no run is planned within two hours of a limit. Use the fatigue management policy for the rest rules, put the planned hours into the fatigue log, and note what we tell the eastern suburbs customers about the second drop that caused Monday's problem.

Your brief

Produce a seven day driver roster that meets the fatigue management policy and Chain of Responsibility duties, record planned hours in the fatigue log, handle the breach and the stood down driver correctly, and write the customer communication about realistic delivery windows and second drops.

Work through it

You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.

What someone in this role would produce

  • Seven day driver and vehicle roster
  • Fatigue log entries for every driver and day with planned hours
  • Incident register updates for the breach and the stand down
  • Customer note on delivery windows and second drops
  • Summary for the manager of coverage and risks
