Pick, check and despatch an urgent chilled order

What is going on

Merriwa Foods has placed an urgent order, SO-77201, for six pallets of frozen pastry sheets to be first drop on the Mulgrave run tomorrow morning. The order sits on the consignment board as CN-260907-0015 with the status Picked, but nothing has been picked yet. The stock register shows the pastry in the chilled chamber, but one bay shows forty-eight cartons while the order needs sixty from that batch, and a second batch with an earlier use-by is in a different bay. The team leader has asked that the order be picked first-expiring-first, second-person checked, wrapped and staged in lane S-02 so that it loads last.

Your brief

Pick the order correctly and safely following the pick and despatch procedure, resolve the quantity shortfall through a pick exception rather than a substitution, get the order checked, wrapped and labelled, stage it for the right vehicle, and update the stock register and consignment record so that customer service and the driver have an accurate picture.

• Read the order picking and despatch procedure and check the consignment record for the customer, destination, pallet count and delivery window.
• Identify in the stock register which bays and batches hold the pastry and decide the pick sequence using the first-expiring-first rule.
• Complete the pre-start on order picker OP-04 or forklift FL-18 and record it in the fleet register before entering the chilled chamber.
• Pick the order, scanning bay and product for every line, and raise a pick exception in the stock register for the short bay instead of substituting another product.
• Arrange a second-person check of the picked pallets against the pick list and record who checked them and when.
• Wrap and label each pallet with the consignment label showing customer, destination suburb, pallet number and total pallets, and stage in lane S-02.
• Update the stock register status of the picked pallets to Allocated and then Despatched at loading, and update the consignment record with the vehicle and departure time.
• Tell Jordan Mbeki and customer service about the shortfall so that the customer can be advised before the delivery.

What someone in this role would produce
