You are the Assistant Housekeeping and Facilities Manager.

Simulated workplaceAdvanced missionCAQA Harbour View Hospitality

What is going on

October brings the cruise group of 22 rooms on 3 October, the gala dinner on 16 October and a wedding on 7 November, with occupancy forecast above 90 per cent for the first fortnight. The housekeeping team of 28 includes full-time, part-time and casual room attendants, two laundry staff and a maintenance officer. Two housekeeping items remain open in the WHS register: the trolley brake near miss and the laundry sanitiser leak. The Housekeeping and Facilities Manager needs a compliant roster within the labour budget and corrective actions for both items to present to the health and safety committee.

Daniel Nguyen, Housekeeping and Facilities Manager
Subject: October roster and safety review for housekeeping

With the cruise group, the gala and the wedding all in October I need the housekeeping roster for the first fortnight of October built by 25 September, within budget and the award. While you are at it, review the two open housekeeping items in the WHS register, the trolley brake near miss and the sanitiser leak, and bring corrective actions and a toolbox talk plan to the safety committee. Use the WHS Policy and the incident procedure as your reference.

Your brief

Prepare a fortnightly roster for 1 to 14 October that meets forecast demand within budget and the award, and complete the investigation, corrective actions and a toolbox talk plan for the two open WHS register items so they can be closed at the committee meeting.

Work through it

You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.

What someone in this role would produce

  • Fortnightly roster for 1 to 14 October with hours and cost summary
  • Updated WHS register entries with corrective actions
  • Toolbox talk plan
  • One-page summary for the health and safety committee
