Run the plant room checks and correct the hydrotherapy pool
You are a facilities and plant operator trainee at the leisure centre.
What is going on
The hydrotherapy pool has read low free chlorine on two mornings this week and the dosing pump is on the Facilities Coordinator's watch list. Last week a hypochlorite delivery hose was found still connected to the fill point. The council environmental health officer is inspecting the aquatic facility on 1 October and will want to see the log, the corrective actions and the calibration records. You are in the plant room with Dev Chandra from 6 am on Monday. The pools open at 5:30 am for the 50 metre pool and 7 am for the hydrotherapy pool, and the aqua aerobics for older adults class is at 10 am.
Subject: Hydrotherapy pool chlorine and the plant room checks
The hydrotherapy pool read low free chlorine again on Thursday morning and the dosing pump is on my watch list. You are with me in the plant room on Monday from 6 am. Read the pool water testing and plant operation procedure and bring the log with you. I want you to complete the shift readings, test all four pools before opening, work through the corrective action steps if the hydrotherapy pool is low again, and check the hypochlorite fill point after last week's hose problem. Record everything in the log and the equipment register.
Your brief
Complete the shift plant readings and the pre-opening tests for all four pools, work through the corrective action steps for a low free chlorine result in the hydrotherapy pool, decide whether the pool can open, check the chemical delivery area and record everything in the pool water quality log and the equipment register.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Plant readings record for the shift
- Pool water quality log entries for all four pools including the corrective action and re-test
- Equipment and maintenance register update for the dosing pump
- Chemical delivery area check record
- Inspection preparation note
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
