Arrange a funeral with the Martino family

What is going on

Giuseppe Martino died at home on 8 September aged 84 and was transferred into care the same evening. His wife Rosa and their two sons are coming to the Ringwood funeral home at 10 am to arrange the funeral. The family are Catholic and want a rosary the evening before, a requiem mass at their parish church and interment in the Martino family vault in the monumental section of Everlasting Memorial Park, where Giuseppe's parents rest. The vault will need to be opened and reinstated. Rosa speaks Italian at home and her eldest son will interpret where needed. David Nguyen will sit in but you will lead the meeting.

Your brief

Conduct the arrangement meeting, complete the funeral arrangement record with the family, produce an itemised quote that meets the client care and pricing policy, and set the registration, permit and vault preparation work in motion so that every department knows what to do and when.

• Read the funeral arranging procedure and the client care, pricing and consumer protection policy, then prepare the arrangement suite with the price list, catalogue and a new arrangement record opened from the case.
• Confirm who holds the authority to arrange, record the relationship, and collect the registration details required by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, reading the full name back letter by letter.
• Work through the service details with the family: rosary, requiem mass, vault interment, coffin or casket, dress, viewing, flowers, notices and vehicles, explaining each option and its cost as you go.
• Record the cultural and religious requirements and the family's instructions for the mortuary, including the suit and rosary supplied and the hearing aid to be returned.
• Produce the itemised quote showing the professional service fee, each product, the vault opening and reinstatement fees and each third-party disbursement, and obtain the signature on the arrangement record.
• Update the funeral case register to Confirmed once signed, and update the interment register entry for the vault with the service date and the documentation still outstanding.
• Draft the death notice wording for the family's approval and a task list for the mortuary, cemetery operations and transfers teams with dates and times.
• Prepare a note for David Nguyen explaining how you handled the interpreting arrangement and any moment where the family needed more time.
