Set up the basin area and colour bar for a heavy colour day
You are the Salon Assistant and Apprentice on the South Yarra floor.
What is going on
Wednesday 16 September is the busiest colour day of the month at South Yarra, with six foil services and two on-scalp bleaches booked before lunch. The Salon Manager will be mixing at the colour bar from 8:30 am and needs the basins, towels, gowns, treatment products and the colour bar ready and hygienic before the first client arrives. He also needs you to shampoo, treat and prepare his first two clients while he is mixing. A recent hazard entry in the incident register found peroxide and bleach powder stored on the same shelf, and the stock register shows bleach powder close to its reorder point.
Subject: Basin and colour bar set-up for Wednesday
Wednesday is a heavy colour day, six foils and two on-scalp bleaches before lunch. I need the basin area and the colour bar set up, sanitised and stocked before 8:30 am and the shampoo and treatment services run for my first two clients while I mix. Check the stock register for bleach powder because I think we are down to the last tub. Record what you do on the chemical handling checklist and let me know anything you find that is not right in the cupboard.
Your brief
Prepare and sanitise the basin area and colour bar to the chemical handling and infection control standards, deliver two shampoo and treatment services safely, check stock and storage, and report what you find.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Completed basin and colour bar set-up checklist
- Stock register updates for colour and developer lines
- Incident register review note on the storage hazard
- Written report to the Salon Manager
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
