Construct twelve hand-tied gift bouquets for a corporate order

What is going on

Halvorsen and Reid, a corporate account, has ordered twelve medium hand-tied gift bouquets as staff recognition gifts (ORD-26-4447), each going to a different address on Friday 18 September with its own card message from a spreadsheet. The Head Designer has given you the whole job: stock pull, construction, card matching, quality check and wrapping, ready for the Orders and Delivery Coordinator to plan a hire van run. The design standards guide sets the medium hand-tied specification, the spiral technique and the finish. Cool room 1 holds garden roses, snapdragons, eucalyptus, kangaroo paw and flowering gum from this week's deliveries. A near miss last week involved a knife left in a bucket, and the workroom is busy with event production alongside you.

Your brief

Plan the stock, construct twelve consistent medium hand-tied bouquets to the specification, match every card message correctly, complete a bench quality check, wrap and label each bouquet, keep tools and the bench safe, and update the Order Book so the delivery run can be planned.

• Open ORD-26-4447 in the Order Book, confirm quantity, delivery date and the card message spreadsheet, and read the medium hand-tied specification in the Design Brief Template and design standards notes.
• Prepare a stock pull list for twelve bouquets with a ten percent allowance, using first in first out from the Stock Intake and Cool Room Log, and confirm any shortfall with the Buying and Stock Coordinator.
• Set up your bench to the Tool Safety and Manual Handling Procedure: elbow height, anti-fatigue mat, sharp clean knife, cut-resistant gloves for roses, and buckets on the trolley not the floor.
• Construct the first bouquet as the sample using the spiral technique, check it against the specification for size, proportion, colour balance and stem binding, and have the Head Designer approve it.
• Construct the remaining eleven bouquets to match the sample, recutting stems and placing each finished bouquet in fresh water as you go.
• Match each card message to the correct recipient address from the spreadsheet, write the cards, and attach each card to its bouquet with the address label.
• Complete a bench quality check of all twelve against the order, wrap each bouquet in the corporate wrap, and change the Order Book status to In production with a note of bench sign-off time.
• Clean and sanitise tools and the bench, record any cut or near miss on the Incident and Hazard Report Form, and write a handover note for the Orders and Delivery Coordinator.
