Produce an intelligence product on the industrial estate burglary series
You are an Intelligence Analyst in the Criminal Investigation Unit.
What is going on
Three commercial burglaries have occurred in the Riverina Industrial Estate within a month, each overnight between Thursday and Saturday, each targeting tools and copper from premises without alarm monitoring. A residential burglary at Larkspur Rise used a similar method of forcing a rear door. The estate traders have a business watch briefing on Thursday and are asking what police are doing. The Detective Senior Sergeant wants an intelligence product that analyses the series, assesses the threat and risk to other premises, and recommends patrol tasking and crime prevention advice, ready to brief investigators and to inform what can be said to the traders.
Subject: Industrial estate burglary series
We have three commercial burglaries in the Riverina Industrial Estate in a month and the traders are asking questions at Thursday's briefing. I need an intelligence product: analyse the incident records for method, timing and targets, assess the threat and risk to other premises, and prepare a briefing note with recommendations for patrol tasking and crime prevention advice. Priyanka can walk you through the analysis format. Please have a draft to me by Wednesday afternoon.
Your brief
Analyse the available incident and exhibit records, develop an intelligence assessment of the series including the threat and risk to other premises, and produce a briefing note with recommendations that can be actioned by patrols and investigators, while protecting sensitive information.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce

- Threat and risk assessment
- Intelligence briefing note with recommendations
- Public version for the business watch briefing
- Updated Incident Log records
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
