What is going on

The CNC machining centre annual service is booked for 12 and 13 October under the quarter four production and maintenance plan. Liam O'Rourke wants the tooling register up to date before the technician arrives so that any replacement cutters, collets and vacuum pods can be ordered in time. Some cutters are chipped, the spoilboard needs resurfacing and a vacuum pod has been leaking. Working inside the enclosure requires isolation and lockout under the machinery safe operation procedure. Helena Marchetti has asked for a short report on the expected service scope and any parts cost so she can approve them before the builder rush.

The CNC annual service is booked for 12 and 13 October. Before the technician arrives I want the tooling register up to date, every cutter measured and any chipped tooling replaced, the spoilboard resurfaced and the vacuum pods checked. Follow the machinery safe operation procedure for isolation and lockout while you work in the enclosure, and record what you find in the plant register. Helena has asked for a short report on what the service will need so she can approve any extra parts.

Your brief

Safely isolate and lock out the machining centre, inspect and measure every cutter against the tooling register, identify worn or damaged tooling and pods, resurface the spoilboard, record findings in the plant register, and write a brief service scope report with recommended parts for the General Manager.

Read the machinery safe operation procedure sections on the CNC machining centre and isolation and lockout, and collect your personal lock and danger tag.
Isolate the machining centre at the main isolator, fit your lock and tag, and test that the machine will not start before entering the enclosure.
Check every tool in the carousel against the tooling register, measure diameters and lengths, and mark chipped, dull or incorrect cutters for replacement.
Inspect the vacuum pods and spoilboard, identify the leaking pod, and resurface the spoilboard following the machine card instructions.
Update the plant register record for asset PL-001 with your findings, the service due date and any change to status.
Prepare a materials requisition form for replacement cutters, collets and pods with estimated costs for supervisor approval.
Write a one page service scope report for Helena Marchetti covering the tooling condition, parts required, estimated cost and the production impact of the two day service.
Remove your lock and tag only when the enclosure is clear and the machine is returned to a safe state, and record the lockout in the machine card.
