Receive a steel delivery and resolve a missing certificate

What is going on

A delivery of ten lengths of 75 by 75 by 6 millimetre grade 300 angle arrived under purchase order PO-26-1179 without the mill test certificate the order required. Kel Mackenzie has placed it in the quarantine rack under receipt REC-26-0886. Bay 1 want the angle for the stringers on a rail platform job, which is code work, so the material cannot be issued until the certificate is on file and the heat numbers are checked. At the same time a second delivery of flux cored wire has come in with a batch certificate, and the forklift used to unload steel has just been found with an expired operator licence in the training matrix.

Your brief

Follow the material receipt and traceability procedure to check the delivery, manage the quarantined angle, request the certificate, update the register, communicate the hold to the workshop and raise the forklift licence issue, so that traceable material is only issued when it is properly certified.

• Read the Material Receipt and Traceability Procedure and check the angle delivery against purchase order PO-26-1179 for grade, size, quantity, condition and certificate requirement.
• Confirm the angle is correctly quarantined and labelled, and update the receipt REC-26-0886 in the Materials and Certificate Register with the quantity, condition and certificate status.
• Draft the certificate request to go through the Engineering Office to the supplier, stating the purchase order, the material and the heat numbers marked on the lengths.
• Receive the flux cored wire delivery, check the batch number on the spools against the batch certificate and enter the receipt in the register.
• Write a short note to the Fabrication Supervisor explaining that the angle cannot be issued to the rail platform job until the certificate is on file, and what the expected date is.
• Check the Training and Competency Matrix for the forklift licence status of the stores team, report the expired licence to the Stores Coordinator and enter it as a hazard in the WHS Incident and Hazard Register.
• Plan the manual handling of the angle lengths for the day the certificate arrives, using the lifting aids and a two-person lift where needed.
