Plan the completion and certification of a turboprop phase inspection

You are the assistant maintenance planner.

What is going on

Northern Aeromedical Services need their turboprop VH-NAM back on line by 19 September for patient transfers. The phase inspection under WO-26-1176 is stalled awaiting an elevator trim tab hinge, the propeller hub has been removed for an airworthiness directive inspection in the component workshop, and several airworthiness directive and service bulletin items remain in the work pack. A torque wrench needed for the propeller installation is due for calibration on 14 September, one engineer's authorisation on the type expires in October, and the aircraft requires an independent inspection on the trim system. Ruth Kaminski wants a completion plan, an allocation of authorised engineers and a certification package ready for release.

Ruth Kaminski, Maintenance Planning and Records Manager
Subject: Plan the VH-NAM phase inspection completion and certification package

Northern Aeromedical need VH-NAM back on line by 19 September and the phase inspection is stalled awaiting the trim tab hinge. Please plan the completion: confirm the airworthiness directive and service bulletin items in the work pack, sequence the remaining tasks and the propeller hub inspection around the parts arrival, allocate authorised engineers from the register, and prepare the certification package including the records updates and the release. Flag any authorisation or calibration issue that could stop the release and brief Marcus and Fiona on the plan.

Your brief

Plan and sequence the remaining tasks of the phase inspection around parts, tooling and personnel constraints, verify the airworthiness directive and service bulletin status, allocate authorised engineers, prepare the certification and records package and brief the supervisors on the plan and its risks.

Work through it

You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.

What someone in this role would produce

  • Outstanding task and airworthiness directive list
  • Parts, tooling and personnel allocation
  • Day by day completion plan with fallback
  • Certification package checklist
  • Written brief to the supervisors
