Fabricate repair parts and practise locking devices
You are a second year apprentice in the component workshop.
What is going on
The corrosion repair on VH-DDA needs a doubler and a small bracket fabricated from 2024-T3 aluminium sheet to the drawing in the structural repair manual. Nathan Pham wants you to draw the material from the bonded store correctly, mark out and cut the parts, deburr and check them against the drawing with calibrated measuring tools, and record the material batch on the task card. Because of last month's fuel drain valve occurrence he also wants you to practise safety wiring on the workshop training rig and have it inspected. All work must use current approved data and the tool control procedure.
Subject: Fabricate the bracket for the VH-DDA repair and prepare the fuel valve safety wiring
Kirsten needs a doubler and a small bracket fabricated from the 2024-T3 sheet in store for the VH-DDA corrosion repair, made to the structural repair manual drawing. I also want you to practise safety wiring on the fuel drain valve training rig after the occurrence we had last month. Draw the parts from store correctly, use the calibrated tools, check your work against the drawing and record the material batch on the task card. Bring the finished parts to me for inspection before they go to the hangar.
Your brief
Fabricate the doubler and bracket to the drawing using correct hand skills, materials and tools, record the material traceability on the task card, complete a safety wiring exercise to standard, and present all work for inspection.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Task card with material traceability and measurements
- Fabricated doubler and bracket presented for inspection
- Safety wiring exercise inspected
- Tool sign out and return record
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
