Refuel Bluewater Kestrel at the fuel wharf
You are the General Purpose Hand assigned to refuelling on Bluewater Kestrel.
What is going on
Bluewater Kestrel needs 1,800 litres of diesel before Monday's buoy job and the 500 hour service that follows. The fuel wharf at the marina was the site of a two litre diesel spill on 5 September when a visiting vessel's tank vented, and the Fleet Engineering Manager has made it clear there is no tolerance for a repeat. Kestrel has two tanks of 1,500 litres each; the soundings show 420 litres in port and 380 litres in starboard. The fuel wharf staff will operate the dispenser while you are in charge of the vessel side of the transfer. The marina office must be called on the radio before the transfer starts.
Subject: Refuel Kestrel before the 500 hour service
Kestrel needs 1,800 litres of diesel before the Monday job and the 500 hour service the week after. Please refuel her at the marina fuel wharf following the Vessel Refuelling Procedure to the letter. I want the tank soundings before and after, the quantity taken and the transfer recorded in the Planned Maintenance and Defects system and the refuelling log. Dave's team will meet you at the wharf. Remember the spill on 5 September; there is no tolerance for a repeat.
Your brief
Refuel Bluewater Kestrel following the Vessel Refuelling Procedure and the Environmental and Pollution Prevention Policy, with the correct preparation, watch, quantity calculation and records, and no fuel spilled to the wharf or the water.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
