Plan the Marlow Flat skate park consultation

What is going on

The Marlow Flat Recreation Reserve Committee has lodged a planning application for a new skate park with lighting, funded partly by a state grant that must be acquitted by June. Council has resolved to consult the community on the design before deciding. Neighbours have already raised noise and lighting concerns, young people have been asking for the park for years, and the primary school wants a safe-use education program to go with it. Ash Lindqvist needs a Community Consultation Plan that opens by 5 October, closes before the November council meeting, reaches groups that are usually hard to hear from, and includes a public education element on safe and respectful use of the park.

Your brief

Complete a Community Consultation Plan using the template that defines the decision, identifies all stakeholders, chooses suitable methods and timing, sets a budget, and explains how results will be reported back, and record the consultation as a request in the Customer Request System.

• Read the Community Consultation Plan Template and the community engagement obligations in the Local Government Act 2020 and confirm the level of engagement for this decision.
• Define what council will decide, what is negotiable (design, lighting hours, landscaping) and what is not (location, grant deadline).
• Identify the stakeholder groups, including young people, neighbours, the reserve committee, the school and Aboriginal community members, and how each will be reached.
• Choose at least four consultation methods suited to those groups and set a timetable that opens by 5 October and closes at least four weeks later.
• Design a public education element on safe use of the park and note how it links to the consultation.
• Prepare a budget for materials, venue hire, catering and promotion and record it in the plan.
• Describe how participants will be told what was heard and how it influenced the decision, and the date the summary will be published.
• Log the consultation in the Customer Request System as a community project record and submit the completed plan to Ash Lindqvist for approval.
