What is going on

The state forest allocation review in December will examine regeneration outcomes on Timberline's native forest coupes. Coupe GP-11A Tanjil Bend is a selectively harvested mixed species regrowth coupe, suspended after wet weather, with a sediment event recorded in the register. Coupe GP-14B Blackwood Ridge starts in October after the cultural heritage assessment. Neighbours near Tanjil Bend raised concerns last year about smoke from regeneration burns and the loss of habitat trees. The Chief Executive Officer has asked for a regeneration plan for both coupes that sets out the silviculture regime, seed source and sowing, the disturbance method, the stocking survey timing and a community engagement approach, with a one-page summary for the leadership meeting on 13 October.

The forest allocation review in December will look closely at our regeneration outcomes on the Gippsland coupes. I want a regeneration plan for GP-14B Blackwood Ridge and GP-11A Tanjil Bend that sets out the silviculture regime, seed source, burn or mechanical disturbance, stocking survey timing and the community engagement we will do with the neighbours who raised concerns last year. Sinead will give you the coupe records. Base the plan on the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Protection Policy and present a one-page summary I can take to the leadership meeting on 13 October.

Your brief

Prepare a regeneration plan for GP-11A and GP-14B that applies a sustainable silviculture regime, meets the code stocking standard, protects the retained habitat and heritage values, addresses the sediment event and includes a community engagement plan for the neighbours, with a one-page executive summary.

Read the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Protection Policy and the Bushfire Season Readiness and Emergency Response Plan and list the regeneration, burning and habitat obligations they create.
Review the GP-11A and GP-14B records in the Harvest and Haulage Planner and the sediment event in the Safety and Environment Register and summarise the current condition of each coupe.
Choose and justify a silviculture regime for each coupe (seed tree retention, seedbed preparation by burn or mechanical disturbance, seed source and sowing rate) against the code stocking standard.
Set out the regeneration timetable: seedbed preparation window, sowing, stocking survey at the required interval and the trigger for re-sowing if the survey fails.
Write the environmental controls for the regeneration works including the drainage repair at Tanjil Bend, buffer protection during burns and the habitat tree protection plan.
Prepare a community engagement plan for the Tanjil Bend neighbours: what will be communicated, when, by whom and how concerns about smoke and habitat will be answered.
Update both coupe records in the planner with the regeneration plan summary and next actions, and close or update the sediment event in the register with the planned repair.
Write the one-page executive summary for the Chief Executive Officer with the regime, the timetable, the cost drivers and the risks.
