What is going on

Crew A is moving to the eastern face of coupe MG-214 Kalangadoo North, a radiata pine clearfall with a harvester, a forwarder and a loader on the landing, plus one feller taking down edge trees that the harvester cannot reach. A streamside buffer runs along the western edge and was flagged last week. Overnight rain has softened the snig tracks and the fire danger rating is forecast Moderate with a rising north wind by afternoon. The Harvesting Supervisor, Jarrah Coulthard, has asked you to work through the pre-start with them, walk the buffer, and confirm the crew understands the exclusion zones around the machines after last week's near miss with the forwarder.

Crew A starts on the eastern face of Kalangadoo North tomorrow at 6:30 am. You are on the pre-start with me. Before you arrive, read the Coupe Pre-start and Daily Hazard Check Form and the Manual Tree Felling and Chainsaw Operation Procedure so you know what we are checking and why. The streamside buffer on the western edge was flagged last week; walk it with me and confirm the tape is still up. Bring your radio and your competency card. The fire danger rating is forecast Moderate but check it again in the morning.

Your brief

Complete the Coupe Pre-start and Daily Hazard Check Form with the supervisor, identify the hazards for the day, confirm the controls, sign the crew on and record the near miss follow-up as a toolbox talk in the Safety and Environment Register.

Read the Work Health and Safety Policy and the Coupe Pre-start and Daily Hazard Check Form so you know each item you must confirm before the crew starts.
Open the MG-214 record in the Harvest and Haulage Planner and note the harvest method, the crew and the note about the western streamside buffer.
With the supervisor, walk the western buffer and record whether the flagging tape is intact, then record any difference between the coupe map and the ground.
Complete every field on the pre-start form for today, including the fire danger rating, wind, hazards identified and the controls you agree with the crew.
Read the near miss record dated 3 September in the Safety and Environment Register and prepare three key messages about machine exclusion zones using the Toolbox Talk Record Template.
Deliver the toolbox talk with the supervisor, record the questions raised and enter it in the Safety and Environment Register as a toolbox talk entry.
Report one new hazard you observe during the walk, for example the soft snig track, as a hazard entry in the register with a suggested control.
