Receive and inspect an explosive ordnance consignment

What is going on

A road consignment of 5.56 mm linked ammunition and white smoke grenades is due at the Wide Bay facility on Thursday morning. The advice note lists two lots. Storehouse 3 holds small arms ammunition and Storehouse 7 holds pyrotechnics, and each has a net explosive quantity limit displayed on its limits board. Last week two cartons in another consignment arrived water damaged and had to be quarantined, so the manager wants every package inspected with care. You will run the receipt under the direct supervision of Jarrah Coombes, an authorised technician, because your own authorisation has not yet been recorded in the training and competency register.

Your brief

Complete the receipt from preparation to storage in line with the Explosive Ordnance Receipt and Inspection Procedure, record both lots in the Explosive Ordnance Stock Register, identify and correctly handle any package that fails inspection, and produce a receipt record that a second person can check.

• Read the Explosives Safety Policy and the Explosive Ordnance Receipt and Inspection Procedure and list the prohibited items you must leave outside the explosives area gate.
• Check the Explosive Ordnance Stock Register for current holdings in Storehouse 3 and Storehouse 7 and confirm the new lots fit within each storehouse limit and compatibility group.
• Prepare a receipt checklist covering the vehicle, placards, consignment documents and the advice note, and record the outcome of each check.
• Inspect each package for damage, moisture, broken seals and markings, and record the result; one smoke grenade carton has a broken seal and must be treated correctly.
• Enter both lots in the Explosive Ordnance Stock Register with nature, lot number, quantity, storehouse, condition and inspection date, quarantining the damaged carton as a separate record.
• Complete an Incident and Hazard Report Form for the broken seal as an explosives event and enter it in the WHS Incident and Hazard Register.
• Ask Jarrah Coombes to check your register entries against the physical count and record the second person check on the receipt record.
• Write a short handover note to Dev Pillai summarising the receipt, the quarantine and the storehouse limits after placement.
