Support a field refuelling task

What is going on

The regional training squadron is running an exercise on Thursday and has asked for field refuelling of vehicles from drum stock at a temporary refuelling point. Bec Halloran leads the two person crew and you are the second operator. In August a fuel hose coupling released under pressure during a test, which led to a batch of hoses being condemned and the hose test procedure being reviewed, so hose testing before departure is being watched closely. The task includes preparing the equipment, testing hoses, setting up the refuelling point with spill containment and fire fighting equipment, refuelling vehicles safely and recording every refuel and every check.

Your brief

Prepare, carry out and record the field refuelling task as a member of the crew, testing and recording hoses before departure, setting up and operating the refuelling point safely, logging every refuel and reporting any fault or incident on the spot.

• Read the Work Health and Safety Policy and the fire response section of the Emergency Management Plan and list the actions you must take if a fire starts at the refuelling point.
• Check the Training and Competency Register to confirm your fuel operator competency is current and note the date it expires.
• Test the hoses you will take and record each result in the hose test record, withdrawing any hose that fails.
• Check the drum stock, spill kit, earthing leads and fire extinguishers against the equipment list and record the check.
• Take part in the crew toolbox talk with Bec Halloran and sign the attendance record kept with the site safety records.
• During the task, log every refuel with vehicle, quantity, time and operator, and record every hose connection check.
• Complete an Incident and Hazard Report Form for the small spill that occurs when a vehicle moves before the nozzle is stowed, and record it in the WHS Incident and Hazard Register on return.
• Complete the end of task report for Leanne Cowell listing fuel issued, stock remaining and any fault found.
