Respond to and report a use of force in Unit 3
You are a Correctional Officer on day shift in Unit 3.
This mission touches on a mature theme. It is fictional. If it brings up something hard for you, you can stop at any time and talk to someone you trust.
What is going on
During afternoon unlock a prisoner in the Unit 3 dayroom refuses a direction to return to his cell, raises his voice and advances on your colleague. You call the incident on the radio, the Senior Officer responds, and you and your colleague apply an approved escort hold and walk the prisoner to his cell. He is offered a medical assessment and accepts. The Senior Officer has created register entry INC-2026-0416 and it shows Reports received, but your Incident Report Form is not yet in and the General Manager reviews every use of force within five working days.
Subject: Reports for the Unit 3 dayroom incident
The register entry for yesterday's use of force in the Unit 3 dayroom, INC-2026-0416, still shows Reports received and Marcus wants it in Under review by tomorrow. You were on the unit and need to write your own Incident Report Form, first person and in order, and check the body-worn footage has been tagged. Then make sure the medical assessment outcome is recorded against the entry. Use the Incident Response and Reporting Procedure and do not discuss your account with the other officer before you write it.
Your brief
Complete your part of the incident response under the Incident Response and Reporting Procedure and the Use of Force Policy: write a first-person Incident Report Form, confirm evidence has been preserved, make sure the welfare steps are recorded and move the register entry to Under review with everything attached.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Completed Incident Report Form
- Updated register entry with evidence and medical outcome recorded
- Handover entry for the incoming shift
- Debrief notes
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
