Induct a placement student and run the prestart briefing
You are a labourer on the framing crew at Kellerman Street.
What is going on
A placement student is joining the framing crew at the Kellerman Street townhouse project for two weeks. The leading hand, Jack Whitlam, will be off site on Tuesday morning receiving a truss delivery and has asked you to run the site induction and the prestart briefing. The first floor decks for units 1 to 3 are in place, edge protection is installed on the north side only, and a near miss involving a dropped reinforcing bar offcut was recorded last week. The site WHS management plan, the SWMS for first floor work and the toolbox talk template are in the document library. The training matrix and site diary must be updated before work starts.
Subject: Placement student starting Tuesday, prestart and induction
We have a placement student joining the framing crew at Kellerman Street on Tuesday for two weeks. I would like you to run their site induction, take them through the Kellerman Street WHS management plan and the SWMS for first floor work, and deliver Tuesday's prestart briefing on working at heights while I am at the truss delivery. Record the induction in the training matrix and the prestart in the site diary. Tom can help you with the site walk.
Your brief
Prepare and deliver a site induction for the placement student covering the site rules, emergency arrangements and current hazards, then run a prestart briefing for the crew on working at heights and dropped objects. Record both correctly in the training matrix and the site diary.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Completed Toolbox Talk Record with attendance
- Training matrix entry for the induction
- Site diary entry for the day
- Hazard report for the missing edge protection
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
