What is going on

Student pilot Tomas Lindqvist is ready for navigation lesson 3 of the commercial pilot licence course: a visual flight rules triangular route through the training area with landings at two other aerodromes. The Head of Flight Training wants you to plan the flight, prepare the lesson plan and pre-flight briefing on the academy template and present it for authorisation. The plan must include the syllabus objectives, weather minima for the lesson, fuel, weight and balance for the single-engine trainer, the radio and airspace plan, and the threats for the day. A training aircraft recently taxied close to an airline turnaround, so the taxi route and radio calls at the shared aerodrome must be part of the briefing. The flight is entered in the dispatch record as TRN-0917-03.

Tomas Lindqvist is ready for navigation lesson 3 on Thursday, a visual flight rules triangle through the training area with two landings away. I want you to plan the flight, prepare the lesson plan and pre-flight briefing on the template, and bring it to me for authorisation. Include the weather minima for the lesson, fuel, weight and balance, the radio and airspace plan and the threats for the day. After last week's taxi conflict with an airline turnaround, the taxi route and radio calls at the aerodrome need to be part of the briefing.

Your brief

Prepare a complete flight plan and a lesson plan and briefing for navigation lesson 3 that meets the syllabus, the academy's minima and the aerodrome procedures, obtain authorisation from the supervising instructor, and record the plan in the dispatch record and the student's training file.

Review the student's record in the Crew Training and Qualification Records to confirm progress, the last debrief and the objectives for lesson 3.
Read the Flight Training Lesson Plan and Debrief Template and the taxi conflict report SR-26-0149 in the Safety Reporting System.
Plan the route with headings, distances, times, altitudes and alternates, apply the forecast wind and calculate fuel including reserves.
Complete the weight and balance for the trainer with instructor, student and fuel, and confirm the aircraft is within limits for the planned fuel load.
Prepare the radio and airspace plan including frequencies, calls at each aerodrome, the taxi route at Tamworth and the separation from airline movements.
Complete the lesson plan on the template with objectives, sequence, standards, handover of control, abnormal and emergency considerations and the threats for the day.
Present the plan and briefing to the supervising instructor for authorisation and record the authorisation on the template.
Update the TRN-0917-03 record in the Flight Movements and Dispatch system with the route, fuel and authorising instructor.
