Prepare materials for a tipper subframe using the jig
You are a production worker in the fabrication shop.
What is going on
Work order WO-26-0425 is an aluminium tipper body for Murrumbidgee Shire Council. On Tuesday the subframe rails were cut 15 mm short because a superseded drawing was used, and the rails were scrapped. The Fabrication Manager has asked you to prepare the materials again from the correct revision and set up the subframe jig with the Leading Hand Welder. The press brake has a back gauge fault under repair, the ten tonne crane is due for its quarterly inspection and the shop has just had an arc flash injury, so pre-start checks and screen positions are being watched closely. The build is due on 16 October and the shop cannot afford another scrapped set of rails.
Subject: Subframe for the council tipper: cut list and jig set up Monday
We scrapped the subframe rails for WO-26-0425 on Tuesday because someone cut to drawing revision B instead of C. I want you to prepare the materials again from the correct revision. Pull the cut list from the work order, confirm the revision with quality, draw the section from stores and set up the subframe jig with Jai. Read the Welding and Hot Work Procedure before you get near the bay, and complete the pre-start on the press brake because maintenance has been chasing a back gauge fault.
Your brief
Read the work order and the correct drawing, prepare the cut list, draw materials from stores, cut and prepare the sections using the correct tools and pre-start checks, set up the jig and present the prepared materials for tack welding, recording everything on the work order.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Cut list checked against the current drawing revision
- Stock check note from the materials register
- Completed pre-start checks for press brake and saw
- Jig set up and squareness check record
- Updated work order notes
