What is going on

Stage 2 of the Ryans Creek revegetation project involves planting 4,200 tubestock and direct seeding two hectares along a creek line for the catchment landcare network. Twelve volunteers will join the crew. The site inspection and the pre-planting weed control were completed last week, and the creek bank zone is culturally sensitive and marked with pink tape following consultation with the Traditional Owner group. Tree guards are arriving on the morning, the direct seeder needs calibrating for the seed mix, and photo points must be set up before planting begins. The site is remote and radio contact was lost there last month.

Subject: Ryans Creek stage 2 planting day with volunteers

Stage 2 at Ryans Creek is on 15 September under WO-26-0415, with 12 volunteers from the landcare network joining us. I need you to run the day: confirm the site inspection and weed control are complete, brief the volunteers using the Toolbox Talk Record Template, allocate planting zones from the site plan, check tree guards and watering, and record tubestock batches and direct seeding rates in the Field Activity Log. Set up the photo points before anyone plants. Remember the site is culturally sensitive along the creek bank, so nobody digs outside the marked zones.

Lead a safe and well recorded planting day: confirm site readiness, induct and brief volunteers, allocate zones, oversee planting and direct seeding to the site plan, protect the culturally sensitive zone and record all works and monitoring points.

Read the Revegetation and Site Works Procedure and confirm from the Field Activity Log and Chemical Use and Storage Register that the site inspection and weed control are complete.
Prepare the day's plan: planting zones from the site plan, species and densities per zone, crew and volunteer allocations, tools, water, first aid, communications and check-in times.
Deliver the volunteer induction and safety briefing using the Toolbox Talk Record Template, covering the pink-taped zone, tools, heat, working near water and the biosecurity boot wash.
Establish photo points and survival transects and record their locations before any planting starts.
Calibrate the direct seeder for the seed mix and record the rate, then supervise direct seeding on the marked two hectares.
Supervise tubestock planting, guard installation and watering in, checking depth, spacing and guard fit, and correct volunteers respectfully where needed.
Record tubestock batches, numbers planted per zone, seeding rate and any variations in the Field Activity Log and update work order WO-26-0415.
Close the day with a debrief, clean tools and boots, and enter any hazard or near miss in the WHS Incident and Hazard Register.
