Run the enhanced cleaning routine during a parvovirus outbreak
You are the Kennel Supervisor in the Shelter and Adoptions team.
What is going on
A dog in the observation block tested positive for parvovirus yesterday and has been moved to the isolation ward at the clinic. The Senior Veterinarian has declared an outbreak covering the admission and observation blocks. Nine dogs remain in those blocks, three of them unvaccinated on arrival. Volunteers are rostered on this morning and two members of the public are expected to collect reclaimed animals. You must lead the team through the enhanced cleaning routine, protect the green zone, keep the isolation protocol intact and make sure every observation is recorded so the veterinarian can track the outbreak.
Subject: Suspected parvovirus in isolation, enhanced cleaning from today
Sasha (RB-26-0887) has tested positive for parvovirus and is in the isolation ward. I am declaring an outbreak in the admission and observation blocks under the Infection Control and Biosecurity Policy. I need you to run the enhanced cleaning routine set out in the Cleaning, Disinfection and Isolation Procedure, stop intakes into the amber zone and check every dog in admission for symptoms twice daily. Record the outbreak status and your observations in the Animal Register for each affected animal and report any new cases to me the same day.
Your brief
Plan and lead the enhanced cleaning and monitoring response for the affected blocks in line with the Infection Control and Biosecurity Policy and the Cleaning, Disinfection and Isolation Procedure, keep people and unaffected animals safe, and record the outbreak status and observations in the Animal Register.
Work through it
You do not need to do it all. Doing a few of these will show you what the work is like. Your ticks and notes stay on this device.
What someone in this role would produce
- Zone cleaning order and personal protective equipment plan
- Completed toolbox talk record
- Animal Register notes for each affected dog
- WHS hazard entry
- Same-day report to the Senior Veterinarian
Printing this is a record of what you explored. It is not a certificate or a qualification.
